Left-out Liverpool fan favourite could feature in Euro 2016 semi-final as injuries hit

We’ve all been a little disappointed at Emre Can’s lack of involvement at the Euro 2016 Championships, but he may be in line for a semi-finals start following news that both Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger are doubts for Germany’s next game through injury (via DFB).

Can is a fantastic player and a real fan favourite at Liverpool, but with the talent filled squad Joachim Low has at his disposal it’s not necessarily all that surprising that Can doesn’t get as much game time as we’d like.

The current world champions have built a superb squad full of world class talent, and the experienced stars who have won the World Cup and performed in a number of major tournaments with both club and country are unlikely to be dropped without very good reason – even the likes of Schweinsteiger who has suffered with injury and endured a poor season with Manchester United.

Can is definitely good enough for the German squad, but he’s not often going to get too many chances to prove it. That may change for at least the next couple of games though, with a couple of key players potentially set to miss the Euro semi-finals against either France or Iceland.

It would be great to see Can impress on one of the biggest footballing stages in the world, and while it’s a shame for Germany that they’ll be without a couple of key names, it’s great news for the player himself.
