Sheyi Ojo set to miss most of Liverpool’s pre-season

Liverpool’s wonderkid winger Sheyi Ojo will miss a large chunk of pre-season.

The teenager has been called up to England’s Under-19 squad, who will compete with Austria, Croatia, France, the hosts Germany, Italy, Holland and Portugal in the coming months.

Ojo broke through into Liverpool’s first team plans last term under Jurgen Klopp, scoring an FA Cup goal at Anfield versus Exeter.

He’s quick, direct and possesses physical prowess beyond his years – and this pre-season would have been a fantastic chance for Ojo to show Jurgen Klopp what he can do.

Hopefully the youngster will return towards the end of the summer and participate in a few friendlies, because he has the talent to become a valuable Liverpool asset.

The earliest Ojo could get out of England duty is July 18, but in all likelihood, the U-19s will progress and he won’t be able to join Liverpool’s tour of America.

We signed Sadio Mane earlier in the week, who will automatically climb ahead of Ojo in the pecking order. Without Europe, it’ll be hard to get the flyer game time, but if he impresses the boss enough, he’ll be granted opportunities off the bench and early on in the League Cup.
