Joe Allen transfer latest: Liverpool’s valuation soars after Euro 2016 performances

Liverpool are understood to have upped their asking price for Joe Allen after his excellent performances for Wales at Euro 2016 this summer.

Allen has been one of his country’s outstanding performers in their run to the semi-finals in France. They face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal for a place in the final on Wednesday.

The Telegraph reported last month that Allen, whose first-team chances have been limited under Jurgen Klopp, could be allowed to return to former club Swansea City for £10m.

But the Daily Mail understands that the Reds are now demanding £14m for the 26-year-old midfielder on the back of his displays for the Red Dragons.

Capitalising on Allen’s form for more money makes business sense, but if Klopp and company have really been so impressed, then why aren’t we keeping him?

Our pursuit of a new midfielder is proving frustrating. As Sky Sports reports, Piotr Zielinski and Mahmoud Dahoud have been linked but are proving difficult to lock down.

Allen’s form in the second half of the last season, which he has built upon for Wales, suggests to us that he could be every bit as good as any new signing.
