Jurgen Klopp signs new long-term contract with Liverpool

Liverpool have moved to tie down Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz to the club long-term, and today the official website announced lengthy extensions for all three!

Sky Sports suggest it’s a six-year deal, running until 2022.

The German only took over from Brendan Rodgers in October, but FSG have been so impressed by his overall impression on the club, they’ve offered him blockbuster new terms – which will go down terrifically with Liverpool fans.

Supporters have been blown away by the boss, who led us to two Cup Finals last season despite working with an entirely inherited squad. He’s united the fanbase and given us a reason to hope. In short, he’s turned us from doubters into believers.

“When you have an individual of Jürgen’s quality in the building it makes perfect sense to secure that person for the long term. To not do so would be irresponsible,” John Henry said.

“The overriding motivation behind this decision is Jürgen’s commitment to overall improvement and development. In Jürgen we have someone who is always looking ahead, always looking beyond his own wants and needs and putting the club first.

“The ideas and plans he has for the football infrastructure excite us and we believe it benefits the organisation to have Jürgen committed to Liverpool for a sustained period, to make sure he is here to oversee this development. By making this commitment to him, we are taking away any future distractions or doubt. We will move forward in partnership together, with confidence in each other and with the club’s future at the forefront of every decision.

“He is a world-class managerial talent and his leadership will be critical to everything we hope to achieve in the years ahead.”

So far this summer we’ve signed Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, Loris Karius and Marko Grujic, but this Klopp deal is the most significant of the lot. We believe in his plans and ideas for our future, and it’s great to see the owners do as well.

With a new contract for the manager and a full pre-season for him to instil his ideas into a young and hungry squad, our expectations for the new season are huge.

This is great news, and should be celebrated by all.
