Gotze tells team-mates he’s leaving Bayern; Jaw-dropping potential destination emerges

Remember when Liverpool’s pursuit of Mario Gotze fell flat in the water because the German was adamant he’d stay at Bayern Munich and win a spot in the team?

Well after his club embarrassed him by coming out and explaining that he could stay, so long as he was happy with a role on the bench – the 24-year-old’s mind may have been changed.

Now, he’s actively considering leaving, and has told German team-mates that he sees no future at the Allianz and needs a transfer to resurrect his stuttering career.

This is according to Bild, who claim Tottenham are now the most likely English destination, with Mauricio Pochettino keen on including Gotze in a devastating attacking midfield alongside Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen. Spurs though will have to battle Borussia Dortmund for his signature, with the Bundesliga champions keen on fixing their beleaguered squad which has been stripped of Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan already this summer.

Liverpool would no doubt have been interested in Gotze following this change of heart had we not signed Sadio Mane for £30m. With Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana, not to mention Lazar Markovic and Sheyi Ojo, our attacking midfield roster is already full to bursting point.

If Gotze does sign elsewhere, we’ll have to hope Mane’s form in red is so good it won’t bother us that the German is playing for somebody else when it could so easily have been us.
