Klopp admits 38-man squad needs trimming; Echo suggests who is up for the chop

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his Liverpool squad is too big and will need trimming over the course of the summer window.

There are currently 38 players in the senior Reds squad after the arrival of new signings and the return of players from loan spells.

Klopp has “100%” promised that some will leave and has even begun putting players in the shop window by assuring other managers they will be ready for the new season.

“All the players who came back from loans are in the squad for the moment, but we have to see,” Klopp is quoted as saying by the Echo.

“My job is to give them the best training that I can, and at the end we have to make decisions. We have 38 players at the moment, and that is 100% too much!

“We have to take some decisions, but you can be sure that if a team takes a player from us, they will have had two or three weeks of really hard and intensive training in their legs, and are as fit as they possibly can be.”

Jordon Ibe is likely to leave after Liverpool accepted a £15m bid from Bournemouth, as The Guardian reports, while Mario Balotelli seemingly has no future at Anfield.

The Echo understands that Christian Benteke, Luis Alberto, Sergi Canos, Joe Allen, Martin Skrtel and Adam Bogdan could all follow them out of the door.

And the same report also claims that there are doubts over whether Lazar Markovic and Andre Wisdom will remain part of Klopp’s plans for the upcoming season.
