Club slap ridiculous asking price on Liverpool target; Reds immediately drop out

Liverpool once spent £35m to sign Newcastle’s Andy Carroll, but to spend the same amount on Moussa Sissoko now they’ve been relegated to the Championship would be the most absurd deal in our history…

But according to talkSPORT, that’s the asking price Rafael Benitez’s Magpies have stuck on the Frenchman’s head, after his impressive performances at Euro 2016.

Sissoko was France’s best player on Sunday evening, and although they lost to Portugal in the final, the rangy midfielder’s form didn’t go unnoticed.

David Anderson from the Mirror though claims we’re not interested, and if £35m is the sum we need to spend to acquire him, we’re hardly surprised.

Sissoko was undeniably impressive for France, but he was the complete opposite throughout most of last season, part of the reason the Toon were relegated.

A player this inconsistent is not worth such enormous money, even in this day and age where transfer fees have gone through the roof, and we’re glad there’s no actual interest.

Imagine if Liverpool had spent £70m on Carroll and Sissoko combined – five years apart! Unthinkable.

Newcastle have signed Matt Richie and Dwight Gayle this summer, and we’d be surprised if Benitez didn’t guide them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. If Sissoko costs £35m, expect them to have him at their disposal as well!
