Southampton to sign very talented midfielder (Liverpool linked, but will surely sign in 2 years’ time now instead…)

Southampton are on the verge of completing a £12.8m deal for Danish sensation Pierre-Emile Kordt Højbjerg, reports Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old is leaving Bayern Munich for England’s south coast, having broken into first-team contention under Pep Guardiola, who’s now at Manchester City of course…

Liverpool were heavily linked with the talented Dane last month (via Daily Star), but have allowed Højbjerg to join Southampton – much like we did with Sadio Mane two years ago when also interested in the Senegalese winger.

As it’s turned out, we signed Mane this summer for more than double the money he was available for in 2014, with the winger following countless players from St. Mary’s to Anfield in the past couple of years. Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Rickie Lambert all made the switch, and it would be no surprise if Højbjerg succeeds and eventually makes his own way to Merseyside!

In terms of central midfield options, Liverpool have signed Marko Grujic so far this summer, and have allowed fellow youngster Jordan Rossiter to leave for Rangers. There’ve been multiple links to Piotr Zielinski and Mahmoud Dahoud, but our interest in the former has cooled (via Echo) and Borussia Monchengladbach’s youngster is proving unattainable.

It’ll be interesting to see whether fresh targets emerge, as we believe links to Benfica’s Anderson Talisca (via Mirror) are false.
