Klopp willing to pay £25m to lure top defensive target to Liverpool

We’ve been repeatedly linked with a move for German international Jonas Hector this summer, and recent reports have suggested that we’re about to break the bank in order to land the left-back for a massive £25m, as reported by Bild.

A left-back is seemingly high on Jurgen Klopp’s list of priorities ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, with Hector potentially his top target.

The 26-year-old featured heavily for Joachim Low’s Germany side during the Euro 2016 Championships, and was more than deserving of his place in the team after a number of stellar performances for FC Koln in the Bundesliga this past season.

His showings at the Euros may well have bumped his price up a little, as it’s now being reported that we’ll need to pay £25m to lure him to Anfield. We’ll need to move quickly to land him though, as his situation is being monitored by a number of other top clubs. The report suggests that Tottenham are also keen on the full-back, while Barcelona have seen a £15m bid turned down already.

The Catalan giants have recently completed a €16.5m move for PSG’s Lucas Digne (via FCBarcelona.com), so they seem unlikely to be looking to sign another left-back this summer. There are still plenty of other clubs we could face competition from though, so Klopp should move fast.

£25m is arguably a lot for Hector, as although he’s been excellent for Koln recently, players of a similar quality have gone for far less. Player prices are going up and up at the moment, but we still need to make sure we aren’t overspending needlessly.
