Spanish paper makes absurd Liverpool transfer claim regarding Brazilian superstar

The transfer window has left us shaking our head in disbelief this summer, due to the extortionate fees paid for mightily average footballers, but the only thing more baffling is the way some media outlets report it.

Here, is an example:

Last week, PSG’s Lucas Moura gave about the biggest possible indication that he’s entirely committed to his team’s cause.

Speaking to Foot Mercato earlier this week, the Brazilian attacker was asked about Liverpool’s interest, but flatly denied any knowledge of the link and said, categorically, he wanted to stay: “No. I’m happy here. I like Paris. I love the club. I like everyone. I always said I wanted to stay. I want to write my story here.”

That should put it to bed, right?

Wrong.

Today, Spanish paper Sport – translated by Sport Witness – boldly declared: ‘‘Liverpool will not surrender for the Brazilian – Jurgen Klopp does not relent with Lucas Moura. Liverpool insists that the Premier League is the ideal place for PSG’s Brazilian to exploit his full potential.’

(How would a Spanish paper have inside knowledge of a Brazilian player at a French club moving to an English side with a German manager…?)

‘Will not surrender’? ‘Does not relent’? They paint a picture of Klopp running round Paris trying to track him down; sending flowers to his door in an order to woo Moura to Merseyside.

It’s just not happening! And how do we know? Firstly because none of the respected Liverpool journalists have uttered a word about the deal. Secondly, because the player himself said so. Thirdly, because we’ve just splashed out £30m on Sadio Mane – who plays in the exact same position.

AS YOU WERE!
