Club set to match Stoke’s £13m Allen bid, which suggests LFC should’ve asked for more

Stoke City have already had a £13m bid for our Welshman Joe Allen accepted, but his former club Swansea are set to match it – meaning the midfielder will have a straight decision to make in regards to his future, reports the BBC.

The 26-year-old shone for Liverpool in the second half of last season, and won a spot in the Euro 2016 Team of the Tournament due to his wonderful performances with Wales this summer, but with one year left on his deal, Liverpool haven’t looked to extend.

With Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Marko Grujic and potentially incoming signing Gini Wijnaldum fighting for two central positions, the thought is that Allen would simply struggle for minutes, but if two clubs are prepared to match his asking price, we probably should have upped it to at least recoup the £15m we paid for him in 2012.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Allen prefers a move back to his boyhood club or Stoke, who are active in the transfer market and possess a pretty exciting starting XI – with Sadio Berahino potentially arriving as well.

Wherever he goes, we’ll always give him a very warm reception upon his return to Anfield. He’s handled himself impeccably during his four year tenure.
