Ex-Barcelona starlet could make Liverpool switch

Former Barcelona youngster Juanma Garcia is currently enjoying a trial with us, featuring for the U21s in their win over Welsh minnows Rhyl FC (via the Echo).

The 19-year-old was highly rated at Barcelona as a youngster, but like so many before him failed to make the grade at one of the biggest clubs on the planet. He’s impressed so far with a solid outing against Rhyl, even supplying an assist for Brooks Lennon in the 4-1 win.

Youth manager Michael Beale has been impressed with what he’s seen so far, and was full of praise for the teenager.

“Juanma is a boy who’s come in to spend the week with us with a view to maybe seeing more of him,” he said.

“He’s only had a couple of days training with us, speaks very little English but you can see a very good player. He had a fantastic assist for Brooks Lennon.

“He’s very versatile and can play in different positions because technically he’s very good.

“I quite like him, he reminds he a little bit of someone like a Pablo Zabaleta-type player, a nice player.”

Predominantly a centre-back or a left-back, against Rhyl he played the latter. We’re massively short of quality at left-back at the moment so Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be looking for cover, but Juanma is unlikely to be the player most fans want to see through the door.

Of course we need to be looking towards the future too, but we need players who can come in and make an immediate impact. If Juanma continues to impress and does end up signing, hopefully he doesn’t effect Klopp’s hunt for a senior left-back.
