After months of deliberation, we’ve finally been hit with our punishment for the “illicit banner” and fireworks set off during the Europa League final in May. UEFA have slapped us with a £13,390 (€16,000) fine for our actions, with the news announced this past Monday afternoon (via the Echo).

As the report suggests, Sevilla have also been fined €17,000 for the way their fans behaved after the match ended, throwing projectiles and just generally causing crowd disturbances.
This is something that unquestionably needs to be stamped out, and unfortunately we were under investigation a number of times last season. We were hit with a couple of fines too, so this isn’t new territory.
We were hit with two €40,000 and €17,000 fines following our Europa League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford, and were ordered to pay another €10,000 after our monumental victory over Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals (via the Echo).

Hopefully we see significantly less of this type of behaviour next season – from both our fans and the opposition – as it certainly detracts from the game. We don’t want to get a name for being the type of team with fans who cause problems, so this kind of thing needs to be stamped out.
