Cesc Fabregas’s dirty, late tackle on Ragnar Klavan earned him a red during Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool – and the player and manager Antonio Conte rightly came out and apologised afterwards.
This proves their guilt and hopefully remorse, which makes this tweet from Chelsea’s official account even the more crazy. They claimed during the game that the scything tackle, which could have easily broken Klavan’s ankle, didn’t warrant a red.
Cesc Fabregas receives a red card for a foul on Ragnar Klavan. It was a late challenge but it seems a little harsh. #CFCTour

Thankfully Klavan did not come away with a nasty injury, but Chelsea’s Twitter account didn’t know that at the time – and rightfully received a torrent of abuse from Liverpool supporters – even one Chelsea fan!
If that’s not justification we’re in the right, we don’t know what is.
With Mamadou Sakho sent home for disciplinary reasons, and an ankle injury affecting Joel Matip’s pre-season preparations, it’s essential Klavan stays healthy.
Now, he has a genuine chance of starting the campaign away to Arsenal – providing he maintains fitness and impresses like he did for the most part of the Chelsea clash.
