Mamadou Sakho broke club rules and was therefore sent home, according to Klopp.

“He nearly missed the departure of the plane, he missed a session and was late for a meal,” revealed the boss.

“We have some rules and we have to respect them. If somebody doesn’t respect it or somebody gives me the feeling he is not respecting it then I have to react.”

However, Klopp did go on to say that it he didn’t consider the transgressions to be a serious problem.

“I have to build a group here, we have to start new here,” he said.

“So I thought maybe it made sense for him to fly home to Liverpool and after eight or 10 days when we come back we can talk about it. It’s not that serious.” (via Echo).

The German now hopes that being sent back to the UK will be enough of a punishment. He has no intention of fining Sakho, but hopes he’ll see a new attitude when they return to England next week.

“Fine him? I am not interested in the money of the players,” he added. “I want that we learn together to do the thing that is right.”

“I want them to do the things because they want to do it, that’s all.”

Sakho hasn’t kicked a ball since April 20th when he was banned by UEFA over a supposedly failed drugs test. He is currently injured and will miss the start of the season against Arsenal.
