Klopp outlines Liverpool transfer plans; comments may worry fans

Most Liverpool fans agree that we’re in desperate need of fullback reinforcements, with very little backup for Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno available.

Brad Smith has been sold and Jon Flanagan is up for loan, meaning Connor Randall is the only obvious option – and he’s not played at left-back, only on the right.

Other supporters would go as far to say we need a holding midfielder as well, or maybe even a centre-back, but Jurgen Klopp is predicting our business this summer is maybe done.

“If I had to guess I would say no, but I don’t know actually because it’s a long time until the 31st of August and I have no idea,” he told ESPN when asked if any more players would sign.

“[The] 31st of August we have a few friendlies of course and few test games and then we have, one, two, maybe three — I’m not sure — Premier League games.

“So we will see. We will see how the players react on my decisions again because we will have more players than 11 for sure, and then you have to accept a few decisions and you have to take it as an opportunity.

“To develop a team never ends so, you have only result, result, result, but then you will have to again decide. That’s how it is. So we will see. I don’t think we’ll have a lot. But of course everyone knows about it maybe on the outgoing side will happen a little bit … yeah I have no idea in the moment.”

Klopp’s comments indicate that he’ll only bring players in if the current ‘backup’ players ask to leave or pick up injuries, which means there’ll be no more blockbuster signings – sadly. Liverpool will still sell unwanted aces such as Luis Alberto, Mario Balotelli or Christian Benteke – and time will tell if the likes of Lazar Markovic and Lucas are content with backup roles.

Why we’re not signing proper support for Moreno on the left of defence, or ideally a replacement, baffles us. Still, in Klopp we trust, and if he sees something in the Spaniard then we’ll give him another season too.
