Daniel Sturridge says the current pre-season at Liverpool is the most intense of his career so far.

The England striker, who has only been back with the first-team squad for a week after being given an extended break after the Euros, added that he was feeling “fresh” and was looking forward to the season.

“It’s a lot more intense, probably the most intense I’ve ever experienced at any club,” he said.

“It is just a different intensity and a different kind of pre-season. It is certainly something that everyone is getting used to and will hopefully put us in good stead for the season.

“There has been a lot of hard work and a lot of running sessions, tactical sessions as well. It has been going well.”

Sturridge has been carefully managed since Klopp’s arrival, an approach that drew ire from some fans after he was left out of the side for some of our biggest games last season – but he’s confident his regime under Klopp is paying dividends.

“I am feeling fresh. Pre-season is about pushing your body to the limits, so there has been a lot of sessions. You have to push yourself through the sessions as best you can,” said the striker. (via official site)

The new season starts in just two and a half weeks when we travel to London to face Arsenal at the Emirates.
