Shocking Liverpool news; Benteke could be involved in 1st deal of its type for 24 years

This would truly be a jaw-dropping transfer deal…

It’s being reported in the Mirror that Liverpool’s bitter rivals Everton are interested in a club record deal for our striker Christian Benteke.

Chelsea want Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, who has a cool £75m price-tag, and if Anotnio Conte’s side decide to pay the mammoth sum, Everton will have cash to burn on a replacement striker.

Benteke fits the profile. He’s strong, aerial, Premier League proven and available, but a Liverpool player hasn’t moved directly to Everton in 24 years…

The last time it happened was in 1992, when Gary Ablett moved across Stanley Park for £750k. Beforehand Peter Beardlsey made the switch, as did Alan Harper and Kevin Sheedy in the 1980s – but since the turn of the Millennium – no Liverpool player has transferred straight to Goodison Park.

Everton’s current record transfer is Lukaku for £28m, but Liverpool’s asking price for Benteke is £30m, and we’d surely hold out for that if the Toffees came calling…

Annoyingly, Benteke could do very well at Everton – which would be hard to take. The same report in the Mirror suggests Sunderland are also keen, and if they’ve got the money – maybe we should point him towards the Stadium of Light instead…
