Liverpool have been drawn against Burton Albion in the Second Round of the 2016/17 League Cup. (SkySports)

We were given special dispensation by the FA to play the game away from Anfield regardless of the draw due to the ongoing Anfield redevelopment (via Echo) – but in the event it didn’t matter as we came out of the hat after Burton.

We enter in the Second Round due to our lack of European football this season.

We’ve enjoyed reasonable success in the competition in the last few seasons – taking the title in 2012, finishing as runners-up last season, and losing to Chelsea in the semi-final in 2015.

In the 2013/14 season we lost to Man Utd in the Third Round, but it arguably helped clear the way for our remarkable title push.

Having won the title eight times, we are the competition’s most successful side.
