West Brom are eager to sign Christian Benteke, according to SkySports.

It’s been widely thought that it was only a matter of time until the Belgian striker put pen to paper on a deal with Crystal Palace, but West Brom’s interest has thrown an interesting curve-ball into the equation.

Palace had a bid of £25 million rejected earlier this summer, with Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy keen to recoup as much of our £32.5 million outlay as possible.

WBA manager Tony Pulis has only added one new face to the Baggies’ squad this season as he snapped up Matt Phillips from Queens Park Rangers in a £5.5 million deal.

SkySports suggest the move for Benteke has been prompted by an acceptance that England U21 international Saido Berahino will leave the club this summer. They claim that both Stoke and Palace have entered bids of around £20 million for the striker.

It’s unclear whether WBA would be able to force through a deal in time for their first Premier League match of the season against Palace on Saturday afternoon.
