Lallana says Brazilian genius has cemented himself as first-choice free-kick taker

Adam Lallana has hailed Philippe Coutinho’s performance at the weekend.

The Brazilian was in fine form, scoring a beautiful free-kick on the stroke of half-time before added a second after the break.

As hard as it might be to believe, that was his first free-kick goal in the league for us – all the others have come in cup competitions.

But that doesn’t seem to bother the England midfield, who’s claimed nobody can now take the dead balls away from Phil.

“Phil again came up trumps with the free-kick,” Lallana said to Liverpoolfc.com.

“We were working on them a couple of days ago – there’s just no chance anyone is getting anywhere near a free-kick.

“But we all want him to have them because he can produce that, and I think that’s the best I’ve ever seen him score. It was further out than usual and it was right in the top corner, the ’keeper had no chance.”

Lallana was also critical of his own performance.

“It was a bit of a slow start for myself – a little bit slow and sluggish but I felt like I got into the game,” he admitted.

“But it was great to be involved in and we just need to show that for longer periods of time, over 90 minutes.”
