Carragher insists Liverpool still need to spend money before transfer window shuts

Posted by

Jamie Carragher is adamant that Klopp still needs to dip into the transfer market this summer if we are to have a successful 2016/17 season.

We’ve already brought in seven new players, but the Burnley defeat highlighted that there are still obvious holes that need to be plugged.

“The defence is a big problem,” he said. “It was a big problem under Brendan Rodgers and it doesn’t look like it has been rectified.

“Klopp’s had a summer now and looked at where he needs to strengthen but the big-money buys have been at the other end of the pitch.”

He went on to say we’re also lacking defensive midfielder.

“Jordan Henderson is not a defensive midfield player and Emre Can is the only one in the squad that does play there because it looks like Lucas is surplus to requirements.” (cited on Echo).

Ex-Red Danny Murphy echoed his beliefs on last night’s Match of the Day.

“There are issues. And at the start of this game, there were real issues.

“Jurgen Klopp has obviously encouraged them to play out from the back, which is not a problem. It can be a good way to play. But are they good enough to do this all the time? Not quite. They’re not Barcelona. They’ve got to mix their game up better.”

Do you think we’ll sign more players in the next ten days?
