Outrageous… Premier League relegation battlers turn down Mamadou Sakho on loan

This story for us is almost as crazy as the fact Liverpool want to loan out Mamadou Sakho in the first place!

But we do, and according to the Daily Mail, Sunderland boss David Moyes has rejected the opportunity to take the Frenchman on a temporary deal.

Sakho stories make no sense; Loaning Mama would be utterly, utterly ridiculous

Instead, the Scot wants to keep Papy Djilobodji at the back and is looking at bringing in Barnsley’s centre-back Alfie Mawson. Why an expensive deal for Mawson makes more sense than an international standard defender with the bit between his teeth, for free, we cannot understand.

It’ll now be interesting to see which side does take the 26-year-old on loan, as there surely can’t be a shortage of potential takers.

He was our best defender by a country mile last season, and only lost his place when the unfair drugs ban, which has now been completely overturned, arrived. Sakho’s been injured over summer and was sent home from pre-season tour due to bad behaviour – but you can understand his attitude may have been off after what happened to him.

Sunderland are joint bottom of the table with two defeats so far, but if Moyes thinks he can keep them up without the offer of Sakho – that’s his prerogative.

We’d prefer to keep the centre-back, but if Jurgen Klopp wants him elsewhere, be assured it’ll happen before the end of the month.
