This is pretty outrageous, but it’s a story confirmed by reliable Liverpool correspondents such as Dominic King and James Pearce.
Mamadou Sakho has been told he has to find a club before window closes; won’t play for @LFC this season. West Brom latest to enquire

Klopp wants Sakho to prove his fitness/professionalism by playing elsewhere on loan. Won’t play if he stays. #LFC https://t.co/yp5EHhbZMX

Interestingly, Liverpool made it clear to potential suitors that he would not be sold – but have made the Frenchman aware that he won’t play for us this term.

If he can’t find a new club in the next 40 hours, what’s left of the transfer window, he’ll face an entire season on the sidelines.
Remember, this is an international defender who cost big money. We just can’t get our heads around it. Something has obviously gone on behind the scenes that we’re unaware of. There seems no other viable explanation.
For us, Sakho has been stitched up here. He was easily our best defender last season, and was unfairly banned for a taking a substance that wasn’t even on the banned list. He missed the Europa League Final and Euro 2016 as a result, and after suffering an injury over summer – Klopp sent him home from tour – and is now phasing him out. We feel for the guy, but if this is the manager’s wishes – we suppose we need to wish Sakho the best of luck on loan, wherever he ends up. We hope he can prove himself and return, although in truth, we’re now not holding out much hope.
