Liverpool’s forgotten man set for surprising loan switch to Benitez’s Newcastle

In 2014 Lazar Markovic was a £20m prodigy who many large European clubs wanted.

Just two years later he could be joining a Championship on loan, aged 23.

Melissa Reddy in Goal, usually very reliable, has claimed that Rafa Benitez wants the Serbian to join him at Newcastle, and that the winger is actually open to dropping down a division.

Newcastle are favourites for the title, have a Champions League winning manager at the helm, play in front of 50,000-odd at St. James’ Park and can guarantee Markovic minutes – so it’s better than his current situation where he can’t make the Liverpool bench.

We’d hope Markovic would shine in the Championship, and if Jurgen Klopp isn’t keen on him as a long-term playing option – a strong season will definitely increase his transfer value – and in this day and age we could recoup what we spent on him if all goes to plan.

The report claims AC Milan and Schalke are also interested, while Liverpool are likely to finalise Andre Wisdom and Luis Alberto’s exits from the club as well.
