Dejan Lovren hails Liverpool’s “best football of the season” so far after Chelsea win

Posted by

We’ve already played some wonderful stuff at times this season; that twenty-minute second-half blitz against Arsenal, the vast majority of the Leicester match, and the 5-0 thumping of Burton Albion all spring to mind.

But was today the best so far?

Dejan Lovren was certainly inclined to think so, and we agree with him:

“It is always a tough game here but I thought we did brilliantly. In the first half, I thought it was our best football of the season.

“It’s always good to score but the most important thing is the three points. The spirit is perfect so we just need to keep working.” (BBC)

Our first half performance was so fast, so intense, that Chelsea were simply blown away. In the second half we wanted to manage the game more, and despite the goal, we largely did it well.

Let’s be honest, how confident would you have been of holding onto that 2-1 lead for the final 25 minutes last season? It shows how much more composed we are at the back, and what a difference Matip has made.

Chelsea didn’t really threaten – their only real chance after their goal was the late free-kick on the edge of the box, but the wall did its job perfectly.

Well done, lads.
