Roberto Firmino injury update; with groin strain keeping no.11 out of Chelsea clash

Good news, Reds.

Roberto Firmino’s injury isn’t serious and our Brazilian attacker should be fully fit to take on Hull next weekend.

He might even be ready to take on Derby in the League Cup on Tuesday, according to James Pearce in the Echo.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp has claimed Firmino almost played against Chelsea on Friday, but that he decided not to risk the 24-year-old’s minor groin strain.

“There were really difficult decisions to make with Roberto,” Klopp said.

“It was only a little issue, but I had to make the decision in the end to say it was not possible for him to play.

“Everybody said we could take the risk, but I heard the word ‘risk’ too often and so said: ‘no, we can’t take it, Roberto is out’.

“To leave him out and then see the other players play this kind of football is nice.”

Firmino has started this season excellently, but in his place, Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge played alongside Sadio Mane in our attack at Stamford Bridge and did very well.

Now, Klopp has a decision to make every game which of the four superb attackers will begin from the bench; not a bad problem to have in all honesty.

We’d suggest Mane is the only guaranteed starter now, but reckon the boss might rest his key players for the midweek tie in order for them to be fully fresh at Anfield next weekend. Squad players like Marko Grujic, Alberto Moreno and Danny Ings could do with a run-out.
