The 23 teams Liverpool could possibly draw in EFL Cup, with Rafa’s Newcastle & Accrington Stanley

Posted by

Liverpool will find out who their opponents will be in the fourth round of the EFL cup this evening after last night’s comfortable 3-0 win over Derby County.

The draw for the next round is scheduled to take place at 9:30pm tonight following Manchester United’s third round match up with Northampton town.

Several Premier League giants could await Jurgen Klopp’s men in the next round but the Liverpool manager and his side will watch on full of confidence after last night’s dominant display at the iPro stadium.

First and foremost, it’s important to rule out who Liverpool won’t be coming up against next.

City rivals Everton will be watching the rest of the competition from home after a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Championship side Norwich City.

A reunion with former Reds manager Rafa Benitez  poses as an intriguing possibility after his Newcastle side secured their place in the next round with a 2-0 home win over Wolves.

This fixture would also see midfielder Jonjo Shelvey come face to face with some old Liverpool teammates yet again.

Klopp and his players could also be given the chance to take on Chelsea again after Antonio Conte’s side emerged as 4-2 winners after extra time in their third round tie against Leicester.

Liverpool rocked the London side at Stamford Bridge on Friday, running out as 2-1 winners and worrying the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich enough for him to hold immediate crisis talks after the game.

A possible opportunity for revenge also awaits Liverpool in the next round.

There could be a chance to get back at West Ham for their last minute winner in extra-time in the FA Cup last season, providing Slaven Bilic’s team can overcome Accrington Stanley.

Accrington Stanley versus Liverpool, now that would be a big draw.

Likewise, payback could be in order if Liverpool are drawn against the Manchester City side that beat them in last year’s Capital One Cup final.

Pep Guardiola and his players must make it past Swansea first, though.

Then there is Manchester United. There probably isn’t a better time to play Jose Mourinho’s side than right now, which is why Northampton Town cannot be written off tonight.

Liverpool fans would certainly relish the prospect of playing our biggest rivals, though.
