Brendan Rodgers quashes rumours that he fell out with big-money transfer

Our former boss Brendan Rodgers has been speaking about his relationship with Raheem Sterling.

The two suffered from what appeared to be an acrimonious fallout. At the time, the media suggested all sorts of stories about contracts, broken promises, and lack of signings.

Who knows what the truth really was. All we know for sure is that Sterling was eventually sold to City in a £49 million deal.

Rodgers – who is now in charge of Celtic in the SPL – says it was all false. He is adamant that he never fell out with Raheem.

“I never had issues with Raheem,” Celtic manager Rodgers said (FourFourTwo, via Mail)

“Yes, there was that moment where we made a point to him early on, but that was it really. He had a personality but he could accept that and hopefully if you speak to him he would say we had a really close relationship.

“A lot of things that were being said when he left were naughty really.”

He went on to say that Sterling “drifted” during the end of his Liverpool career and during his first season at City, and that he is only now starting to get back to the player he once was.

“He is back to where he was at with me,” Rodgers said.

“I am not saying that in any other way than his level. He’s drifted for the last wee bit of time since he left Liverpool.

“He’s back now playing as the player that he is. You can see he’s being coached and he’s playing to what his strengths are.”

Rodgers’ Celtic are currently top of the SPL with 16 points from six games.
