On paper, Hull and Burnley looked like similar sides. Both are newly-promoted, both are operating on shoestring budget (compared to other Premier League sides), and neither invested particularly heavily over the summer.
So why did we beat one of them 5-1 and lose 2-0 to the other?

We went 1-0 down to Burnley inside the first five minutes, conceded again just before half-time, and thereafter never looked like getting back in the game – despite more than 25 shots and almost 80 percent possession.
Hull were under the cosh from the first minute and never posed any real danger to our three points.
Klopp has the answers:
“The big difference between Burnley and Hull was that the movements in the final third didn’t stop. In the last third we didn’t have many options against Burnley. We shot too much. One pass more and we would have been brilliant. Against Hull it was much better.
“Burnley deserved to win because they scored goals and we didn’t. We should have done better in the final third. We took it as an experience and learned from it.”
He made the comments during an hour-long interview with SkySports on their Monday Night Football show (cited on Echo).
It certainly seems like he has hit the nail on the head.
Let’s just hope we can “do a Hull” against Swansea next weekend. It would be a huge boost ahead of the international break.
