Jurgen Klopp chooses Manchester City ace as favourite PL player, but not who you’d expect

Sergio Aguero? Kevin de Bruyne? Raheem Sterling…?

Thank God Jurgen Klopp didn’t say the last of those three Manchester City players, when asked yesterday evening to name his favourite non-Liverpool FC Premier League star!

Instead, he opted for City’s diminutive Spaniard David Silva, who’s not received the plaudits of his team-mates this term. City are six from six under Pep Guardiola and are heavy title favourites as a result.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, cited in the Mirror, Klopp said: “I like David Silva. I like his style of play.

“I don’t know if he’s dangerous, but he’s a wonderful player. He’s everywhere and so skilled and he has such a good attitude.

“Even now I don’t hear his name too often after the wonderful start by Man City and I’m pretty sure he has his role and I like his style of play.”

“There are a few good player around but I’m actually not that interested in the players of other teams so they are all dangerous when you let them be dangerous.”

We’re sure if he were allowed to have chosen Liverpool players as well, the likes of Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Coutinho and Sadio Mane might have got a look-in.

Interestingly, we were often linked with a young David Silva when the playmaker was at Valencia. We were managed by Rafa Benitez then, but the odious Hicks and Gillett were in charge and very rarely backed him in the transfer market.

Silva is in his thirties now and is becoming less influential, but his skill and technical ability is fantastic. In terms of great Premier League attacking midfielders his name is rarely mentioned, but it probably should be.
