Liverpool confirm Ian Ayre will join 1860 Munich next summer

Posted by

Our CEO Ian Ayre will move to 1860 Munich next summer in a £41 million deal.

Ok – we’re joking about the money – but he is actually moving to new pastures on the European mainland at the end of this season.

According to the Echo, he will take over as the German club’s General Manager.

The paper reports that Hasan Ismaik – a businessman from Jordan who is the club’s majority shareholder – is planning a “major shake-up” to get the side back into the top flight.

We have known for quite some time that Ayre would stand down at the end of the season, but few expected him to be involved with another club quite so quickly.

Ayre has been at our club since 2007. He has slowly moved up through the ranks, being made Managing Director in 2011 and then CEO in 2013.

We at Empire of the Kop would like to wish Ian all the very best for his new chapter.
