Ian Ayre has been speaking about the plans for the next phase of the Anfield redevelopment – a new stand at the Anfield Road end.
The new Main Stand has only just opened, boosting the ground’s capacity to almost 55,000 in the process, but talk is already starting around phase two.
However, the club’s CEO has told fans not to expect too much too soon. He said a new stand will not be promised until FSG are ready to deliver.
“The way we managed the Main Stand expansion was great and we will continue in a similar vein to be cautious and not promise anything until we are ready to deliver,” he said, speaking in the September issue of FC Business magazine.
“We will come along with planning if and when we have the right design and economic model.
“Once we have these parts in place, we will let people know.” (Echo)
If and when the Anfield Road end is rebuilt, the stadium’s capacity would jump to around 60,000. There are currently no plans in place to go beyond that, with serious space issues surrounding any potential expansion of either the Kop or the Main Stand.

A planning application has been submitted to the council and approved, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that it will expire in the middle of next year.
