Liverpool loanee receives ‘monumental boo’ for selfish Champions League play

It doesn’t look like Lazar Markovic’s loan spell in Portugal is going too well, sadly…

The Serbian was sent to Sporting Lisbon for the campaign, being nowhere near Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans, but he’s yet to be given a start for his new side either.

The 23-year-old came off the bench for Sporting in the Champions League last night against Warsaw, but was the target of a ‘monumental boo’ when he failed to square to Bas Dost who had an open goal.

This is according to Portuguese paper Record, which has been translated by our friends at Sport Witness.

Markovic seems a confidence player, so this is not going to do him much good.

The Serb shone in Portugal for Benfica pre-2014, hence why we bought him, but it looks like he’s regressing rather than improving.

Our hope now is that Markovic gets himself in the team and begins to impress, enabling us to earn a tidy sell-on fee next summer. We wish him luck.
