Liverpool offer Sakho ‘glimmer of hope’ but ‘onus’ on Mama to prove himself, says Paul Joyce

After his Snapchat outburst the Friday night before the Hull clash, Liverpool fans assumed Mamadou Sakho had blown his final chance at Liverpool, having been told to wait patiently and get fit by Jurgen Klopp.

According to the player, he’d been fit for weeks, and wouldn’t put up with the ‘lies’ that have been told. Pretty unprofessional conduct, we’re sure you’ll agree.

However, out of nowhere, the Frenchman was selected for the Under-23s against Wolfsburg last night, playing well despite a 2-1 defeat.

Respected Liverpool correspondent Paul Joyce, of the Express, claims this offers Sakho a ‘glimmer of hope’, but firmly suggests that the onus is now on the 26-year-old to stay patient and wait for an opportunity. Considering Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, Lucas and Joe Gomez are all ahead of him in the pecking order, this doesn’t look like coming anytime soon.

Instead, only an injury crisis will offer Sakho a reprieve. With this many players blocking Sakho’s path to the first-team, we just can’t see how he has a future with the club.

Let’s hope he doesn’t embarrass himself and the club in the meantime with anymore middle of the night social media outbursts.
