Young academy hotshot Ben Woodburn his about to sign his first professional deal with the club.

He celebrates his 17th birthday this weekend and will mark the occasion by putting pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club (Echo).

He is widely considered to be one of the most exciting prospects we’ve generated in recent years and has been in fine form for the U23s and U18s this season. He has already scored six goals.

He has been on Liverpool’s books for ten years and was rewarded for his progress when he was asked to join Klopp’s first team squad in some of our pre-season games, despite only being a little over 16 and a half at the time. He scored in the friendlies against both Fleetwood Town and Wigan Athletic.

Woodburn was born near Chester and has opted to represent Wales as his national side.

A three years contract is the longest that  a 17-year-old is allowed to sign.
