Former Liverpool striker ridicules Man Utd tactics at Anfield

Neil Mellor has slammed Man Utd and Jose Mourinho for their negative approach in the game at Anfield on Monday night.

United adopted a 6-4-0 formation for long periods of the game and showed no desire to attack after the first 20 minutes.

The game ended with them being stuck on smidge over 30% possession — the lowest they’ve ever had in the Premier League era — and only six touches in our box all game.

“United have spent £600m since Ferguson left and still don’t go toe to toe with their rivals,” said Mellor (Echo).

“I think you have to ask questions about their approach.

“It’s not a brand of football I like to see. You expect it from West Brom, not from one of your big rivals.”

Mourinho has been widely mocked for his comments in the post-match interviews when he said we were the defensive side.

Next up is a game against West Brom on Saturday night. WBA are sure to adopt a similar approach to Jose “bus driver” Mourinho, so let’s hope that United game gave us some good practice in breaking them down.
