New Liverpool star hoping for League Cup silverware

Can we win this season’s League Cup?

There certainly seems like a very real possibility, especially after the draw for the quarter-finals pitched us against Championship side Leeds rather than one of the Premier League big hitters like United or Arsenal.

After getting to the semis before losing to Chelsea in 2015, then suffering the heartbreak of losing to City on penalties last season, there is a real hunger among the players, fans, and manager to go one better this time around.

And new boy Gini Wijnaldum thinks we’ve got a great chance.

“It seems like it’s a real chance,” the said (official site).

“But we must look at it from round to round, and try to win the games to get to the final and then try to win it. It’s an opportunity to win a trophy and we must do everything to achieve that. That’s what we’re going to do.”

Wijnaldum’s old club Newcastle are also still in the competition and face Hull away — it looks like there could well be a chance of a Gini / Rafa reunion in the semis.

Wijnaldum played the full 90 minutes in the last round as we beat Spurs 2-1 on Tuesday night.
