Klopp explains what went wrong with Lovren for Palace opener

Posted by

Dejan Lovren had a dramatic afternoon in the Liverpool defence.

He was badly at fault for the Palace opener after his sliced clearance allowed James McArther to nod into an open goal. He then immediately picked himself up to power home our second three minutes later, but remarkably was once again at partially at fault on the half hour mark when Palace made it 2-2.

After the flurry of action in the first 30 minutes he largely calmed down and turned in a solid performance in the last hour.

Luckily for him (and us!), our attacking quality ultimately shone through to bail him out. Matip made it 3-2 on the stroke of half-time before Firmino bagged a wonderful fourth mid-way through the second period.

Klopp has been offering his thoughts on the error and the overall performance in his post-match comments.

Here is what he said:

“The defensive error we made for the first goal is because we are not at the limit of our concentration. The aggressiveness was not there at the start of the game. But I saw a lot of wonderful things today offensively.” (BBC)
