Echo name six potential January wing targets, including Barcelona’s underused Arda Turan

The Liverpool Echo has discussed the possibilities of Jurgen Klopp entering the transfer market in January for a new winger.

Sadio Mane is going to the AFCON and our boss has admitted he’ll consider bringing in an option the right flank, where the Senegalese has shone so brightly this term so far.

Liverpool will spend £26m in January to guarantee Klopp’s long-term central midfield target

Here are the six players named, along with our thoughts on each:

Christian Pulisic – Borussia Dortmund

Clearly Jurgen Klopp’s no.1 target having bid for him in the summer. The problem is Dortmund rate Pulisic very, very highly, have no intention of selling and are actually trying to renew the American’s contract.

To acquire him we’d have to lodge a massive bid.

Arda Turan – Barcelona

Because of Barcelona’s unrivalled front-three, the Turk doesn’t get the game-time his talent deserves. He can play on either flank, but has lost some of the pace he had in his younger days. Still, his performances for Atletico Madrid warranted enormous praise and he’d be an exciting signing.

We’re not sure we see Klopp shelling out on an expensive winger who’s turning 30 in a month however.

Jacob Blaszczykowski – Wolfsburg

This is a no go, for us. The 30-year-old was Mr. Reliable for Klopp at Dortmund, but he’s lost much of his pizzazz and has been poor for Wolfsburg this term. He can fill in at right-back, but that doesn’t make him a more attractive proposition.

Luciano Narsingh – PSV

Narsingh is rapid and his contract expires in the summer. This means he’ll be cheap and likely available, providing the zip Mane currently does on the right flank. His end product isn’t on the same level, but he could be a handy squad player.

Julian Brandt – Bayer Leverkusen

Brandt is 20 and would be a brilliant addition, but his price-tag would be enormous. We can’t see Klopp breaking Liverpool’s transfer record for a backup youngster, which is the kind of fee his services would require.

Felipe Anderson – Lazio

Often linked to Manchester United, Anderson’s quick, skilful and Brazilian – so would hopefully slot in to our frontline seamlessly alongside Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in Mane’s absence.  That being said, he’d be very expensive as well.
