But sometimes, even when the chips are down, things in football make you laugh – and this image of Mark Clattenburg did for us today. The ref is often criticised for being a bit full of himself, so when it looked like he was lining up Dimitri Payet’s free-kick with the ‘Ronaldo’ technique, the internet reacted!
Sadly, Payet and not Clattenburg hit the set-piece, and our keeper Loris Karius, who was woefully out of position, couldn’t keep it out.
Can’t blame Karius to be fair, Clattenburg was lining up a Ronaldo special.
