Liverpool want exceptional 19-year-old Brazilian DMC, who’ll cost more than €18m

Liverpool currently have Jordan Henderson dominating midfields on a weekly basis in his role at the base of ours, but he doesn’t have too much competition…

Lucas can play defensive midfield but lacks mobility, while Kevin Stewart is solid, but little else.

According to ESPN Brazil, Liverpool are interested in bolstering the position by signing Santos prodigy Thiago Maia.

The 19-year-old is already a star in his homeland, having won the Olympics during the summer and become one of the most impressive anchormen in the country despite still being a teenager.

The report states that Monaco, Schalke and Napoli are all keen on Maia as well, while Russian side Zenit St Petersburg have already had an €18m bid rejected, meaning we can presume we’d have to beat that offer to acquire him.

Right now, Liverpool probably don’t need midfield enforcements, with Henderson, Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana competing for three places. If we qualify for European competition next season though, we’ll need to strengthen, so it might be smart to bring a player in this January to allow them time to settle.
