Jurgen Klopp delivered the latest Liverpool injury news after Monday’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland.
Both James Milner and Daniel Sturridge were substituted during a frustrating 90 minutes on Wearside, with pessimistic fans fearing the worst.
Fortunately, though, the diagnosis from Klopp seems to be quite positive.
Quoted by LiverpoolFC.com, Klopp said that Sturridge got a “knock” which is not “too bad”, while stating that Milner might have got a knock too and that he was taken off as a precaution.
He explained: “Sturridge] got a knock on his right ankle. I don’t think it’s too bad.
“[Milner] felt like he got a knock on the calf, but he didn’t know exactly if he got a knock. So then we needed to be really careful, so that’s why we made a change.”
Sturridge was arguably Liverpool’s best outfield player at Sunderland, with Simon Mignolet probably his only competition for the Redmen’s Man of the Match award.
The England striker scored the game’s opening goal with a sharp header, which was one of six shots he had – all on target.
Sturridge came off fairly late in the game – on 79 minutes – after Milner was withdrawn at half time.
Milner’s afternoon consisted of 59 touches, including three clearances, six crosses and 35 passes.
