It looked for a short while as though Simon Mignolet had gone someway towards convincing Liverpool fans he could be the goalkeeper to take this club forward.
That was until the Belgian’s role in Hull’s opener during the recent 2-0 loss against Marco Silva’s side.
Mignolet had looked assured and confident since replacing Loris Karius and had been beginning to display the shot stopping expertise that earned him a move to Anfield in the first place.
Last weekend’s defeat again exposed a lack of aerial presence and dominance as he was beaten to the ball from a corner before Alfred N’Diaye tapped home from close range.
Stan Collymore believes Jurgen Klopp must address the goalkeeping situation again in the summer if Liverpool are to move forward.
“In the summer, Klopp needs to swallow his pride and get a top drawer keeper,” he told Boyle Sports.
“One with a presence who the fans and most importantly the back four can be confident of playing in front of.”
“He must have the confidence of a champion and have a point to prove. Joe Hart anyone? Head and shoulders above the potential candidates for me.”
An old fashioned, vocal leader is exactly what we need at the back and Joe Hart can be just that.
The reaction to Pep Guardiola’s decision to sell him speaks volumes with regards to how highly fans in this country rate him. He has the experience and the talent to be a steal if he were to become available in the summer.
