How Rodgers convinced Dembele to sign for Celtic is classic Brendan…

In Moussa Dembele, Celtic have one of the most talented young strikers in all of Europe at their disposal.

The Frenchman is only 20-years-old, but since his switch from Fulham in the summer, he’s been exceptional, scoring 24 goals in total for the runaway SPL leaders.

Now, he’s being watched by all the biggest clubs in Europe and there was even a story linking him to Real Madrid a few days back.

Celtic undeniably did excellently to snare him, and according to his agent Mamadi Fofana, Brendan Rodgers pulled out all the stops to make it happen – namedropping the world’s best striker in the process!

“What he promised Moussa was that he’d have fun, he’d get his chances to play and he’d be at a top club with everything put in place for him to become a better player, so long as you are willing to work,” Fofana told the Daily Record.

“He said: If you don’t believe me, take my phone, call Luis Suarez and ask him what he thinks about me, call Raheem Sterling. I’ve developed many players and you can be one of those, but it’s up to you.”

In fairness, Rodgers did great things with Suarez, although the Uruguayan undeniably helped the manager tenfold too – as was proved in 2014/15 when Rodgers didn’t have the world-beater to call upon.

Remarkably, Celtic haven’t lost in the SPL this season and are on track to finish the campaign unbeaten, a ridiculous 24 points ahead of their nearest rivals Aberdeen.

Rodgers’ real test will come in the Champions League next year, however. Perhaps by that point, he won’t have Dembele to call upon.
