Predicted Liverpool XI vs Leicester: Reds duo sidelined but ‘big game player’ to start

Posted by

Premier League football is back and the agonising wait to see Liverpool play again after an emphatic win over Tottenham is almost over.

The champions Leicester City couldn’t find themselves in a more contrasting situation than that of last season. The sensational and quite frankly disgusting sacking of manager Claudio Ranieri threatens a conventional revival from the players, but there is also the chance it could work in Liverpool’s favour.

All eyes will be on Leicester, the pressure will be on their players, the focus will be on them and the home fans will potentially turn against their side. It is Liverpool’s job to pile on the misery, take advantage of being out of the spotlight and reproduce the kind of performance that bullied Tottenham just over two weeks ago.

The players were so impressive at home to Spurs that we expect nothing to change in terms of the starting lineup.

Dejan Lovren’s absence through injury means Lucas Leiva looks a good bet to retain his place at centre-back alongside Joel Matip. Our defensive work could prove key on Monday and the pace of Jamie Vardy and Amhed Musa is something that could see us hold a deep back line.

A more dynamic midfield is what fans had been calling for over recent weeks and it seems Georginio Wijnaldum has been the man to achieve this. He has been hailed as one of Liverpool’s ‘big game players’ by fans and is likely to keep his place beside Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana. Vision, athleticism, skill, work rate and hunger. The trio will be key in not only combating an inevitably feisty Leicester team but also driving a fast attacking start.

No surprises as to who will lead Liverpool’s attack, especially with Daniel Sturridge likely to miss out through illness. We expect Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to start together once again. They are our go to men. If Mane is in the same mood that he was against Tottenham then Leicester’s defenders have a tough night ahead of them.
