Champions League club in talks over deal for priority £20million Liverpool target

Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a crushing blow in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt, who had emerged as a main summer transfer target for Jurgen Klopp.

Bayern Munich are now believed to be keen on the player and are rumoured to have discussed a possible deal with talks being “far advanced,” according to German news outlet SportsBild.

There was always the chance that Bayern would swoop in for a young German talent such as Brandt given their history in the transfer market.

A deal that saw Brandt move to the Allianz Arena would pose as another example of our need for Champions League football in order to attract the best players around. Having said that, few clubs are capable of competing with what the Bundesliga giants have to offer.

This promises to test the club’s scouting operations and the ability to reassess this summer’s window. If it isn’t Brandt, it will be someone else that arrives on Merseyside. New signings are seemingly a necessity at the end of the season, regardless of where we finish in the Premier League table.

Brandt is valued at £20million and will undoubtedly be the subject of a bid from Liverpool when the window re-opens. For now, though, it’s about continuing to fight for a top four spot.
