Roma’s financial worries boost Liverpool; £22m ‘Regista’ bid now possible

Reports in Italy suggest that Roma will have to sell some players this summer to ease financial concerns and that Leandro Paredes is top of the list to go – with Manolas and Nainggolan more valued.

As a result, Calciomercato (not the most trusted publication, may we add) says a £22m offer will be enough for Liverpool to prise away the Argentinian who’s actually a substitute when everyone’s fit.

The 22-year-old has made just ten starts in Serie A, with many criticising him for going missing in big matches.

He sits deep in midfield but is a creator rather than destroyer, looking to dictate tempo and start attacks – much like Jordan Henderson when our skipper is fit.

We don’t have a natural backup for the Englishman, with Emre Can a more physical, dynamic option in the no.6 position – while Paredes would offer Henderson’s composure and metronomic ability to tick over possession.

He’s a decent player and one that has potential to improve, but the physicality and speed of the Premier League might be something he struggles with – just as it was for Alberto Aquilani – the last ‘regista’ we signed from Roma.
