Shock as Klopp to start Shamal George as striker v Everton due to injury crisis

Jurgen Klopp has admitted he’s going to start Shamal George as a centre-forward against Everton today in the eagerly anticipated Merseyside Derby, much to the surprise of Liverpool fans everywhere.

We take on our bitter rivals at 12:30pm and while they’ll field Premier League top-scorer Romelu Lukaku at no.9, we’re giving a teenager his debut.

Roberto Firmino is not long back from international duty for Brazil and is struggling for fitness, while Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are not ready either. Danny Ings remains out for the season and Liverpool’s manager is boldly risking the 18-year-old – who’s actually more recognised as a goalkeeper.

However, after George’s cameo appearance up top during pre-season against Huddersfield, Klopp is trusting the rangy Scouser, who was born in Wirral, to provide a physical presence at Anfield this lunchtime.

“The Derby is aggressive, sometimes nasty. We need strong players who’ll be good in the air. Shamal is about 6ft. 5′ – perfect! I have total faith in him. He wouldn’t have been involved without injuries, but this is my situation. I trust George. I’m a believer!” Klopp told English publication AFD.

George will be the first goalkeeper to ever start a Premier League match in an outfield position.

We wish him luck…
