LFC’s interest in James Rodriguez confirmed by famous Spanish journalist

Guillem Balague, who we’d describe as ‘hit and miss’ in regards to transfers, reckons Liverpool do have a genuine interest in Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez.

The Colombian moved to Spain after the 2014 World Cup for huge money, having mesmerised for his country during that summer’s tournament.

Despite a very strong start, Rodriguez has gone backwards under Zinedine Zidane and is now below even the likes of Marco Asensio in the pecking order.

Still, his record for Bernabeu giants reads 30 goals and 40 assists in 102 appearances – not too shabby…

Asked if we’re chasing the 25-year-old, Balague said in his column on the Sky Sports website: “Of course they are, but they aren’t the only one. Liverpool are realistic and I think they realise James is looking for a different type of team.

“But he is leaving the door open to all possibilities because he knows Real Madrid want to get rid of him. He would like to go to a club like Chelsea or Manchester United and he has offers from England and Italy but we will have to wait and see.”

So Balague reckons we want Rodriguez, but he won’t want us…

In fairness, he doesn’t exactly seem like the kind of player we’d go for. The playmaker prefers a free no.10 role, whereas Jurgen Klopp wants his attackers buzzing around and working together. He doesn’t have any defensive tendencies, a large reason Zidane isn’t especially keen.

Still, he’s mighty talented and we’d be enormously excited if we really did go in for him. How could you not be?

That being said, it’s defenders Liverpool need this summer. Ones who stop bottom-half teams scoring every time they get into our half…
